Global financial app · Wallet verification & deposits
Revolut, the global financial app serving 75 million customers worldwide, integrated Mesh to verify wallet ownership and power crypto deposits across its crypto offering for European customers. Customers prove they control their wallet with a single signature, and fund their Revolut account with the crypto they already hold — verification and deposits from one Mesh integration.
The EU's MiCA framework and Transfer of Funds Regulation made one thing non-negotiable for crypto-asset service providers in the European Economic Area: before processing certain transfers, they must verify that a customer actually owns or controls the self-hosted wallet involved. This is the self-hosted wallet requirement at the heart of the EU Travel Rule.
For a platform serving tens of millions of customers, the obvious way to do that — assigning support agents to verify wallet ownership case by case — does not scale, adds cost, and introduces exactly the kind of friction that causes customers to abandon a transfer. And the cost of getting it wrong is structural: crypto arriving from an address no one can tie to a customer means unknown provenance, manual review, and the risk of freezing or unwinding funds after they land. Revolut needed to meet the requirement across a multi-chain crypto offering, where wallets span EVM chains, Bitcoin, and Solana, without slowing customers down.
Revolut integrated Mesh to confirm ownership before funds move, with a method suited to each source. For self-hosted wallets, the customer approves a one-time signature request from the wallet they're connecting — proof of control, confirmed automatically with no manual review and no private key ever exposed. The approach works across EVM chains, UTXO chains including Bitcoin, and Solana, so Revolut can apply one verification method across the chains it supports rather than building a separate process per chain. For exchange accounts, ownership is established through the customer's authenticated connection to their exchange, supporting the account-holder information the Travel Rule requires for those transfers.
Mesh also powers the deposit itself. Through Revolut's Direct deposits feature, a customer funds their account by linking a wallet through Mesh, straight from the Crypto section of the app — no copying wallet addresses by hand, no switching between external tools, and none of the multi-step verification the process historically required. Revolut keeps full control of its interface and experience; Mesh acts as the instruction and orchestration layer, relaying the transfers customers authorize.
Revolut meets the EU Travel Rule's self-hosted wallet ownership requirement for its European Economic Area customers through an automated, signature-based step that replaces agent-driven manual review. Its customers can also fund their crypto accounts by linking a wallet through Mesh — and where a self-hosted wallet is involved, the deposit reaches Revolut from a known, attributable owner, with proof of ownership established before the transfer proceeds. Compliance and a better funding experience come from the same integration.
"We take a compliance-first approach to everything we do when it comes to crypto. Our customers' security is at the heart of our decision making and product strategy at Revolut. In partnering with Mesh, we will greatly enhance our crypto remittances user experience for our customers, while maintaining security and regulatory compliance."
Mazen ElJundi — Global Business Head of Crypto, Revolut
"Mesh has clearly identified a critical pain point in the crypto industry, which is fragmentation and a lack of connectivity. Their security-first approach, technology, and Bam's strategic vision position them perfectly to continue succeeding in this space."
